Well I haven't been getting much of this lately.
For me, before “luck” there is always a belief and everyday with no expectation of anyone watching, training by yourself and believing in your dreams, in hopes that one day your trained ability will collide with an opportunity where you'll be ready to show it off- that's what luck is for me. Not sitting and hoping things will happen.
It’s really been the toughest season for me with illness and injuries. I have never been challenged so much mentally and physically; sometimes I wonder how I'm still going.
Recently I was hit by a car on my way to warming up for a race riding out of Diepsloot. I was not at fault at all, the guy was waiting at a T-junction and when I was about to cross the road with the moving traffic, he saw a gap (which was me) and accelerated into me. Luckily I heard the car accelerate without even looking (I watch a lot of car shows, I even knew it was a polo). I turned my bike towards the car so that the impact wouldn’t be on my leg first. It hit me, I went high, into the windscreen and then over. My backpack and Mavic helmet literally saved me.
As I said, it won't take long for me to be back and I will slowly start training again, the green man only gets bruised. Sadly I'll be missing the MTB Varsity Challenge this weekend, but I’ll be there as team manager.
As for everyone who thinks I have bad luck and advises that I need to visit my ancestors and talk to them, give them a goat or a black chicken (I didn't know this), maybe it’s time for me to reconnect and as always kneel and pray for better days from the Lord our Father.
I have only +/- 3 races to wrap up my year and I'm still hoping for a clear race where nothing goes wrong.
Thanks to everyone out there who still believes in me when it's hard for me to do so and for the get well messages, thanks guys.
I'll keep going on with my mission because everything happens for a reason and I'm here for a reason - it's the unknown of what's to be that keeps me going.
Thanks for the support from the Kargo Pro Cycling Team, my coach Devlin and the High Performance Center.
