I'm back on the starting line with back to back races, and yes I listen to Drake.
This year so far has been a real roller coaster ride for me, a lot has been happening - good and bad, but I'm that guy that still believes everything happens for a reason, which at the beginning we don't even see.
I'm slowly finding my way back on the bike. This past weekend I missed it so much that I did a back to back racing weekend, from the Nissan Trailseeker on Saturday to the Hollard JUMA on Sunday.
I won't lie, I was very nervous as I didn't know what to expect or where my racing form was. I have been doing a lot of gym work and less on the bike, focusing more on getting my biomechanics right to prevent future injuries and build power in my skinny legs.
So first the Trailseeker; racing alongside my new teammate, Grant Usher. I started lined up at the back as I wasn't sure of being in the front with all the "racing snakes", but as we left the starting line I bulldozed my way to the front and was in the driver’s seat for a bit (5min of greatness). I sat comfortably with the guys for about 40km then the tired legs started kicking in, but I finished 7th overall and I was really happy with this ride.
Then I had to sleep and prepare for the JUMA which started early at 7am- very tricky, but something new and fun to do. A few km’s in we took a bit of a wrong turn and we had to chase back with no idea who was in the front. Riding through pipes and tunnels for was hilarious for me- I saw Andrew McLean just riding under with no hassle and I had to get off my bike.
Training has been hard, but I've been loving it. It feels like I spend more time at the High Performance Centre than I do in my own bed. Support is the biggest base for any athlete and looking at how my many top athletes are at HPC proves it's the best place for me to be, and to be riding for a team like the Kargo Pro Cycling Team is a blessing- still keeping the dream alive and growing the sport as a whole.
Now I'm planning and focusing more on next year already, but will still be at most races to rub shoulders and test myself out and really looking forward to that.
