2 out of 3 races so far I have been racing in the rain. But not that I'm complaining, it adds adventure to the racing and makes it a bit more fun, and who doesn’t like a bit more fun?!
So I woke up Saturday morning at 4:30am, put the kettle on, made myself some breakfast and just when I was about to mix my Cadence CarboFuel nutrition I peeped out the window and realized being in the ground floor apartment has deceived me - it was raining cats and dogs! LOL I don’t even know why this is a saying.
I checked in with the race organizers, not knowing what to expect; I don't even know what I hoped for - to race or go back to bed? I finally got a response at about 5:45am saying "the race is not cancelled, but it’s going to be shortened to 25km" and I felt like fate had decided for me; I could still race and come back to sleep, and honestly I was just as excited to test my new Oakley Prizm low light glasses.
On the start line at 7:00 and it was still raining cats and dogs (still don’t know why but I’m using it). We basically got wet for 20-30 minutes before the race started. So in my head I’m thinking this is going to be fast and painful; these thoughts distracted me for a bit and forgot I was still in the rain.
Off we went, and as predicted it was hard. It was a quick fight for position and I was in at 5th on the first single track with the plan to keep it there until I got my first puncture. I used a plug and bomb and was now in 6th (fixed that puncture so quick like I froze time). But when I got my second puncture my super powers were now gone. With the quick racing I knew it was going to be hard to catch up; my bombs were all used up so I asked nicely and got one, and it was enough to get me to the finish. Other than the minor technicals, I enjoyed this race in the wet!
I'm starting to feel a lot stronger again and I’ve been very positive in trusting in the process and in my coach Devlin. Looking forward to more adventurous racing, but hoping for dry weather next time around.
Thank you to Triviron Project Management., I'm really looking forward to this year.
