I normally give myself enough time to reflect about everything, and man what a timeline it has been. I have always kept positive no matter the circumstances.
Resilience:
2016: I found myself without a team, no bike and no sponsors - I literally raced with borrowed bikes. You’ll remember my Absa Cape Epic partner Philemon Sebona and I made national news asking for a bike sponsor just to compete in the race and we ended up winning the Exxaro Green Jersey.
Hankering:
2017: I was yearning for a comeback; a great result or something big. But with that in my head I pushed a little bit too hard, did more than what I was supposed to do, and that led to a series of injuries. I did more harm than good.
Indomitable:
2018: Refusing to give up, finally I came up with a plan to form partnerships with companies by selling them space on my jersey, a “moving billboard“. My first partner was Triviron Project Management (PTY) Ltd followed by Merida (through Cytek Cycle Distributor), but then unfortunately I was sick and was incorrectly diagnosed for about 6 months and was forced off the bike.
Constancy:
2019: Eventually I found out I was diagnosed with exercise-endured asthma - now I know. I had the first of many consistent training year with my coach Devlin. We patiently worked on the small details to get them right, build slowly, correct what was wrong, improve on weaknesses and adapt to the medication. I also grew my relationship with Triviron Project Management (PTY) Ltd, and year by year we build and improve on our agreement, so I can be at my best all the time. Titan Racing bikes was new last year, working with the new Cypher so I'm excited to kick start this year with them. There are a few more partners and team members joining the William Mokgopo brand for 2020.
The Will:
To all my sponsors/partners - hopefully this year is the year we reap the rewards. Thank you to Triviron Project Management (PTY) Ltd and Titan Racing for believing in me and still backing the possibilities of my dreams.
2020: It’s writing it’s self already.
