GP XCO #3
It’s been four weeks of racing now- I’ve had great races and bad ones, broke a few things, suffered, went through a lot of pain and learned a few tricks.
Well, last weekend’s race was no different; a test in itself. I’ve been having some health issues for the last two weeks, since before the Pietermaritzburg MTB Easter Festival, but I still went into the race with a positive mind; if I was negative I would have lost the race before it even started.
The breakdown: there I was on the starting line, very excited not knowing what's to come. I started off as normal, pushing as hard as I can from the start until I hit the wall, but unfortunately that came a bit earlier than expected on the race first lap and I continued even though I had nothing in me. Now it was a mental game- had to put my head down and told myself “keep spinning those skinny legs Will”.
Waited for my legs to come to the party around lap 3 as they normally do haha, but not this time around! I finished the race second Elite; not one of my best days on the bike, but very happy to have finished. I took a week off to recover a bit; had my first ride back yesterday. Think I'm well recovered for Mankele next week then African Champs. More to look forward to!
Thanks for all the support and cheers from everyone and KargoProMTBTeam sponsors for the continuous support and keeping our dreams alive.
